The Psychehedron is my first serious VR project designed with an audience in mind. The project has been an iterative process, beginning during the mid 90’s as an illustration. I was delighted with what I’d produced at the time, largely because I saw a thirty six hour commitment to drawing it, through to its conclusion. It was a short-lived enjoyment, because I began to think that the imagery deserved more, that it needed to have spatial volume, size and dimension.

During the naughties, I briefly entertained the idea that I’d make a giant cube with inner lighting and mirrors to create the image I was thinking of. I remember idly daydreaming about it being an installation piece in the gallery of the Bristol Arnolfini centre, if only it wasn’t for the lack of time, space and money required to build it.

Twenty years after the bubble of that daydream popped, my superior version, using virtual reality, and twelve weeks of development time with no days off,  is being shown as part of a degree showcase at The Arnolfini. Oh the irony!

As it stands, The Psychehedron is part one of a short series of VR experiences to be made by myself, under the working title  The Good, The Bad and The Alien which I intend to unleash into the public sphere some time in 2023 on the arts festival circuit.
